FUN TIMES AT HAMPI

Hampi, located in Karnataka is a beautiful place teeming with rocks and ruins of the mighty Vijayanagara Empire. Jaw-dropping locales, mesmerizing sunsets, magical landscapes, the untouched beauty of the hills, the intricate carvings of temples and the welcoming smiles of the local people all add up to bring out the old-world charm of the past.

Hovering with so many surreal places, one would definitely want to tick it down their bucket lists. So, here are some of the fun places to catch on at Hampi:

Cycling through the Ruins

Exploring the city by peddling your way through these ancient rocks with quiet roads and paths shielded against the fierce rays of sun on your bicycle is by and large one of the most fun things to do. The prettiest features of the city are the architectural domains ranging from some very famous temples like Virupaksha temple, Vittala temple, Badavilinga to civil buildings like aqueducts & canals, Zanana enclosure, Lotus Mahal and also the elephant stables. Various shops rent cycles for as cheap as 500 bucks a day in and around the city. As you witness these relics of the old dynasty you will have a glimpse of the glamour and glory behind these magnificent structures.

There are various hiking trails across Hampi available to explore. One of them is the Hemakuta Hill. It is a gorgeous rock structure on a hillock with astounding symmetry and surreal beauty. Climb your way up to the top of the hill and hike through the natural trails and witness the compelling peak views and sunsets. The only potential danger you might encounter is the monkeys roaming all over the place.

The Grace of the Elephant

An elephant named Lakshmi is stationed outside the doors of the Virupaksha temple to give blessings to the visitors. It is a treat to watch her bless you with her trunk. Each blessing costs a nominal fee which is often split between the elephant’s caretaker and the temple.
